This question turns up in customer emails almost every week, and it always comes with a healthy dose of scepticism: does shapewear actually work? The honest answer fits in one sentence. Shapewear does not make you lose weight. It redistributes, it smooths, it holds, for exactly as long as you wear it and not a minute longer.
What it really does
The fabric compresses soft tissue and pushes volume up and down. The visible result: a flatter stomach, a defined waist, and a back that no longer creases under a fitted dress. On most figures you gain the equivalent of half a size to a full size around the waist. It is real, it is immediate, and it stops when you take it off.
What often matters more than the centimetres is how clothes sit. Thin jersey, a pencil skirt, a satin jumpsuit: those fabrics show everything, underwear seams included. Seamless shapewear removes those lines. That is where the difference shows up most in a photograph.
What it does not do
It does not burn fat. It does not train your waist. It is not a substitute for core work, and it does not treat anything. Be wary of anyone promising an effect that lasts after you take it off. There is no such effect.
Shapewear that is too tight is also a bad idea. If you have to hold your breath to fasten it, the size is wrong: you will get marks, a ridge above the edge, and you will take it off within the hour. Shapewear you remove at two in the afternoon is shapewear you did not need.
Getting the size right
Measure your waist and hips relaxed, without pulling the tape. Between two sizes, go up. The hold comes from the fabric and the cut, not from buying a size down. And check the size range before you order: a style that stops at XL was not designed with every body in mind.
Three styles, three uses
The Seamless Flat-Stomach Bodysuit (€29.90, S to 3XL, beige or black) is the most discreet under thin fabric: no seams, so no visible lines. This is the one if your issue is how a dress sits.
The Premium Sculpting Bodysuit with zip (€39.90) defines the waist more and lifts at the back. The front zip changes the daily experience more than you would think: you get into it without a fight, and you can get out of it in a bathroom without contortions. A trivial detail that decides the purchase.
The Shaping Short with zip (€39.90, S to XL) extends over the thighs. It is the right call under a pencil skirt or a straight dress, when it is the thighs rather than the stomach that bother you.
When to wear it, when to skip it
A wedding, an interview, an evening where you will be photographed: yes, without hesitating. A ten-hour working day with a long commute on your feet: weigh comfort first. And if you are reaching for it every day out of reflex rather than choice, the real question is no longer about the shapewear.
You can compare cuts and sizes in the women's shapewear section. Free delivery over €35 and 30 days to return anything: if the size is wrong, it goes back.
